Shanghai unveils ambitious sports development plan

The average area for sports per person in Shanghai should reach 2.6 square meters by 2025, according to the city's latest blueprint for the development of sports during the 14th Five-Year Plan period from 2021 to 2025.

By then, Shanghai should become a famous sports city globally, with over 46 percent of the population joining physical exercise regularly, as per the blueprint.

Shanghai should apply for one or two top sports events with global influence, and actively prepare for the hosting of the FIFA Club World Cup, World Rowing Championships and AFC Asian Cup.

By 2025, a total of 30 ice sports clubs should be set up across the city, and 1,000 teams from schools at all levels should be established with more than 1 million students joining ice sports training each year.
