20 smart factories inaugurated in Shanghai

The first batch of 20 smart factories was inaugurated on Tuesday at a municipal work promotion meeting, where the Shanghai Yangtze River Delta Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Promotion Center was launched.


At the meeting, the new STEP robot smart factory was officially put into operation. With a total investment of 690 million yuan (US$105.3 million), the project will be built into a China's first-class robot R&D center, with an annual production capacity of 10,000 sets of six-axis industrial robots and 500 sets of flexible robot workstations. The annual output value is expected to be 1.5 billion yuan.


Among the first 20 smart factories, SAIC Volkswagen M EB Smart Factory is the largest and most efficient pure electric vehicle factory in China, with a total investment of more than 17 billion yuan and a planned annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles. The -ID.4 X has been officially put into production, opening a new chapter for Shanghai's NEV industry.


Eight intelligent manufacturing characteristic industrial parks also showcased their achievements at the meeting. Shanghai is projected to build 100 smart factories during the next three years.
