Shanghai port’s container throughput hits new record

The container throughput of Shanghai port totaled 4.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units in October, rising 15.7 percent from the same period last year.

It’s the first time that Shanghai port has handled more than 4 million TEUs in a single month.

The 4.2-million TEU record is 297,000 TEUs higher than the record set in July when Shanghai port handled over 3.9 million TEUs.

The city aims to build itself into an international shipping center capable of allocating global shipping resources in 2020.
